Where the router sits decides your speed
Most Nova routers are installed where the fiber enters the home: a cupboard by the front door, low down, next to the electricity board. That is the worst spot in the house for Wi-Fi. Signal spreads outward and slightly downward from the antennas, and every wall, metal door and appliance in the way takes a share.
Move the router to the middle of the home, at least a metre off the floor, in the open. If the fiber cable is too short, ask us for a longer one in the Nova app under Home network, Equipment. Moving the router two rooms closer to where you actually use the internet can double the speed in the far bedroom without changing anything else.
- Central, elevated, in the open. Not in a cupboard, not on the floor.
- Keep it a metre away from the television, the fridge and the microwave.
- Antennas pointing up, not folded flat against the wall.
